Some days back, we have received a copyright infringment complain from a New York Times lawyer
The New York Times owns the Boston Globe and thus, owns the Big Picture as well. As a consequence, since the end of June, our application to read the Big Picture on your Android device (as well as our planned application for Android tablets) is not available anymore for download on the Android Market.
We are very sad of this decision from the New York Times but we have to accept it. As of June 2011, close to 5,000 users had downloaded the application and had rewarded us with an average note of 4 stars out of 5. We have been pleased to see that the application had been appreciated and welcomed your feedback and feature requests.
If you want to show your support, you could contact the Boston crew (see http://www.boston.com/help/bostoncom_info/) or leave a comment on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/boston.big.picture). You could ask them to allow us to publish the application again or acquire the application from our company. We are not into making money out of the application (we barely made 50 dollars in a year’s time with ads and full version), and we have always wanted to offer access to this great website on Android.
Sincerely,
Vincent Prat
PS : for existing users of the free version, we have deactivated the push ads, you will still be able to use the application without the ads in your notification bar.
